The term science is of Latin origin “Scientia” which is used to refer to knowledge. Officially, science is defined as the systematic organization of knowledge after performing tests. The origin of science dates from as early as 3500BCE in Egypt and Mesopotamia. The residents of Mesopotamia made pottery, metals, glass, soap, and plaster using the information they had learnt about certain natural chemicals. Science seeks to provide explanations to things as they occur in the natural world. These people had no interest in storing information in writing for future reference. They only wanted scientific evidence for what would provide immediate solutions to their problems.
Mesopotamians also ventured into medicine, anatomy, physiology, and behavior to ensure that the people follow their religion as required. To understand science in its broadness, modern science has been divided into natural science with examples of biology. Social sciences with examples of psychology and economics among others while formal disciplines are catering for other forms of science such as mathematics. Formal sciences, face criticism because they lack experimentation evidence as required. These sectors rely on deductive reasoning, hence is not supported by what science is. However, the other two branches of sciences heavily rely on concepts of formal sciences such as calculus. Careers such as engineering are termed as applied sciences because they apply the findings practically.
Natural science predicts or describes the physical environment while supporting it with evidence from testing. This concept rose from physical philosophy which was developed by early Greece philosophers such as Newton, and Galileo. On the further hand, social philosophy deals with the relationships individuals have with their society. The discipline has distinct branches which all have scientists developing philosophical theories to help everyone have better relations with each other. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses are carried out, in this case, to ensure that the results are accurate.
Research that is essential to bring forth any discoveries is carried out in many institutions. Scientists have institutions, schools create institutions, the government agencies and other companies provide institutions for the same. Scientific testing is being carried out every day in which more findings are done globally. There are science policies that aim at encouraging scientists to prioritize health care, commerce, and environmental protection in their activities.
Scientific research can be either basic or applied whereby the basic experiments seek knowledge while the applied testing seeks to apply the knowledge gathered through basic research to solve daily problems. Research is carried out to avoid mistakes while testing existing theories. All scientific theories are open to criticism whenever new evidence is presented. Science grows every day, meaning that no theory can be said to be certain. The concept seeks to provide solutions; in case a better way to reach this solution is developed. Scientists help the people embrace new ways to make life better.
Science has enabled the discovery of several things which are essential to human beings. This is from the discovery of various things such as electricity, vaccination, radio waves, and plastics to mobile phones today. Research is made to be able to creative more solutions to the humans while reducing waste. Since humans came to perceive science, they have used it to separate what is true from what is false. Researchers can link all facts to what happens to the natural world.
Those who have familiarized themselves with science can testify that it is indeed exciting. Through science, we understand past findings, how people used them, as well as how they can be used in the present world. Scientists are always driven to make discoveries and create things that have never been seen before. The concept has no end as it is ever-growing to prove to be more useful to the humans.
Therefore, science in its definition explains that science involves carrying out experiments to organize knowledge in a certain order. The three major branches of science have many other sub-branches under them. Researchers are being guided by policies that ensure the discoveries are aimed towards ensuring the growth of the humans.
We cannot ignore the importance of science because it has helped us find solutions daily on a global level. Science is part of what makes us human beings. Numerous discoveries have ensured growth in all sectors including the health and economic sectors. People are open to make discoveries if they want to challenge any existing theories. Science is always growing and further development is expected daily. Researchers are always ready to adopt new forms of science aslong as it makes their lives easier.
